Pair arrested over East Grinstead hit-and-run

Two men have been arrested after a hit-and-run incident in which a car mounted the pavement and struck four teenagers.

It happened in Imberhorne Lane, East Grinstead, on Friday and left three girls and a boy lying injured outside a school entrance.

Sussex Police said two men from the West Sussex town had been arrested on suspicion of vehicle offences and going equipped to steal.

The pair, aged 19 and 27, were bailed pending further inquiries.

Officers said a grey BMW left the road and struck a lamppost before hitting the children, aged 14 and 15.

Police said the car was then driven away and found abandoned nearby. Two men were seen to walk from the car, officers added.

The teenagers suffered cuts and bruises and three were taken to hospital.
