A man has been bailed by police investigating an alleged threat of violence against the former leader of the Respect party.

The man, 37, from Corby, Northamptonshire, was arrested on Saturday after a complaint from Salma Yaqoob.

Former Birmingham councillor Ms Yaqoob shared the threat on social media after appearing on the BBC's Question Time.

The man was arrested on suspicion of making malicious communications.

Ms Yaqoob, a Respect councillor on Birmingham City Council from 2006 to 2011, appeared on the programme on Thursday.
