Three charged after heroin seizure in Nelson and Dewsbury

Three men have been charged with drug smuggling after heroin with an estimated street value of £6.4m was seized by border force officials.

The drugs were discovered when officers raided storage units in Nelson, Lancashire, and Dewsbury in Yorkshire.

Investigators had tracked a consignment of furniture imported through Royal Liverpool Seaforth Docks from Pakistan, via Dubai, in May 2012.

The three men will appear before magistrates in Trafford on 28 June.

The two men from Nelson, together with another man from Dewsbury have been charged with conspiracy to import a Class A drug.

Officials said they had seized 35kg (77lb) of heroin.
