Northamptonshire A14 fatal crash: William Wilson in court

A man has appeared in court charged with causing the deaths of two people by dangerous driving on the A14 in Northamptonshire.

Stephen Donnelly, 26, and his passenger Mandy Gold, 21, both of South Yorkshire, died in a crash near junction 2 on Saturday night.

William Wilson, 33, of Westrum Lane, Brigg, North Lincolnshire, has also been charged with drink driving.

He was remanded in custody at Northampton Magistrates' Court earlier.

He is due to appear before Northampton Crown Court on 10 July.

Mr Wilson was driving a Mercedes car that was in collision with a Ford Ka being driven by Mr Donnelly, and a Peugeot 208.

The 47-year-old man driving the Peugeot was uninjured.

Police said they are keen to hear from witnesses to the crash.

They also want to speak to anyone who saw a light-coloured Mercedes saloon on Saturday on the A43 near Corby or Kettering, or on either side of the A14 between junctions 1 and 7.
