Norfolk Fermoy unit head injuries case 'not IPCC matter'

A police watchdog says the Norfolk force can investigate the case of a mental health patient who suffered head injuries while officers were with him.

The 30-year-old was seriously hurt, apparently in a fall, outside the Fermoy mental health unit in King's Lynn at 01:20 BST on 25 June.

The case was handed to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

It has requested police investigate locally and look at the interaction between medical staff and officers.

Any issues that arise should be re-referred to the IPCC, it said.

Police from Norfolk and Cambridgeshire had been involved with the man in the hours leading up to the incident.

He remains in a critical condition at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.
