Thirlmere search: Man found dead

The body of a man has been recovered from a reservoir in Cumbria after a search by emergency services.

Two people were reported to be in difficulty in Thirlmere, near Keswick, at about 15:00 BST.

Police said a woman managed to get out of the water and was given medical attention at the scene before being airlifted to Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle.

The body of a man in his 20s was later recovered from the water.

Both the man and woman are believed to be Pakistani nationals, Great North Air Ambulance Service said.

A 27-year-old man had been reported missing, prompting a search operation involving police, fire crews and a rescue boat from Penrith.

Cumbria Police said: "Emergency services attended and a woman was rescued from the water.

"A man was recovered from the water where he had sadly died.

"Police have informed his family and are supporting them during this difficult time."

Thirlmere was constructed in the 19th Century to provide the industries of Manchester with water supplies.
