Ashton-under-Lyne man dies after M6 motorway crash
A car passenger has died following a crash on the M6 in Cheshire.
A Ford Focus hit the back of a broken-down Mercedes in the middle lane of the northbound M6 near Holmes Chapel on Saturday evening.
Four men from Tameside in the Ford were taken to North Staffordshire Hospital, where one died on Sunday afternoon.
The occupants of the Mercedes, who were from Bradford, were stood on the side of the motorway waiting for a recovery vehicle when the crash happened.
The man who died was 62 and from Ashton-under-Lyne. The other two passengers and the driver - aged 29, 48 and 57 - remain in hospital.
The crash saw the northbound carriageway closed for several hours between Junctions 17 and 18 while an investigation was carried out.
Cheshire Constabulary have asked anyone with information about the crash to get in touch.
