Three people have been arrested in connection with the murder of a woman in the New Forest.

Penelope Davis, 47, was found stabbed to death in a field, where she had been tending to her horses, on Tuesday.

The mother-of-five's body was found in a paddock near Leygreen Farm in Beaulieu by her husband.

The three suspects are being held in police custody and the family has been informed about their arrests, Hampshire Police confirmed.

'Multiple stab wounds'

One suspect has been detained on suspicion of murder. A second is being held on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and a third is suspected of assisting an offender.

Police are increasing patrols to offer reassurance to residents in the area.

On Friday, officers searched the shallow river that runs alongside the paddock as part of a wider search for the weapon.

A post-mortem examination revealed Mrs Davis had died from multiple stab wounds.

Mrs Davis, from Blackfield, worked in a local supermarket and visited the field daily to tend to her horses.
