A man has appeared in court charged with an acid attack on a Cornwall businessman.

David Philips, 48, from Barley Lane, Hastings in Sussex, is charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Andreas Christopheros, 29.

He was remanded in custody by Truro magistrates to appear at Truro Crown Court on 6 January.

Mr Christopheros is being treated in a specialist burns unit for life-threatening injuries.

He remains a critical condition after the attack at his Truro home on 9 December.

Mr Christopheros is listed as a director of nine companies and organises the Run To The Sun custom car event, which attracts about 100,000 car fans every year to Newquay.

He is also a director of Chase 3000, a car rally across Europe planned for 2015.
