Man, 50 killed by falling boulder in Bull Pot caving accident

A man has been killed by a falling boulder as he was caving in Cumbria.

The 50-year-old, from Lancaster, was at Bull Pot, Ingleton, when the accident happened at 18:35 GMT on Thursday.

His body was removed from the scene by the Cave Rescue Organisation in an eight-hour operation and stretchered down to an area below.

North Yorkshire Police have not yet confirmed the victim's identity, although a spokesman said his family had been informed.

A report will be prepared on behalf of the coroner.

Near the border of Cumbria and North Yorkshire, Bull Pot is a popular spot with cavers.
