A lorry driver has been arrested after a car driver died in a crash on the A27 in East Sussex.

The 49-year-old Volvo driver from Hildenborough in Kent died in the crash with a container lorry on Thursday.

The lorry overturned on the westbound A27 outside Folkington Manor, between Polegate and Drusillas roundabout.

The 53-year-old male driver from Wiltshire was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

A lorry travelling ahead of the Volvo took evasive action, but its load of scaffolding hit a VW Transporter van, police said.

The driver of the scaffolding lorry - a 45-year-old man from Eastbourne - and a 46-year-old woman from Wadhurst driving the VW van were unhurt.

The arrested man has been released on bail until 27 May.
