Border Agency in Hertfordshire festival arrests

Five men have been arrested over immigration offences at a Hertfordshire festival.

UK Border Agency (UKBA) officials were at Sonisphere Festival in Knebworth from Thursday to Sunday.

Three Mongolian men, a 24, 22 and 20-year-old, were arrested on Thursday. Two had overstayed their visas and one was an illegal entrant.

Later a Nigerian, 32, and a South African, 26, were held for overstaying their visas.

The UKBA said it was working to remove the offenders from the country.

Sham marriages

Immigration officer Emma Engutsamy said: "Our first visit to Sonisphere has proved extremely productive.

"As well as the arrests, we have also gathered useful intelligence and been able to raise public awareness of our work.

"We are determined to crack down on immigration abuse wherever we find it, including major music festivals like Sonisphere."

The operation formed part of a nationwide summer campaign to tackle illegal working, sham marriages, bogus colleges and organised immigration crime.
