Luton shopkeeper beaten during robbery

A shopkeeper from Bedfordshire is in hospital after he was tied up and beaten by robbers.

Pradip Kotecha, 52, had his takings stolen when he let a man into his Home Improvement Centre in Bury Park, Luton after cashing up on Tuesday night.

The man tied up the father-of-three with gaffer tape, wrapping it around his wrists, feet and face.

An accomplice joined in and beat the shopkeeper causing facial injuries.

The robbers, who police said spoke with what might have been Irish accents, stole the takings and then left the store.

Mr Kotecha then managed to struggle free and raise the alarm.
