Biker dies in M1 car and coach crash in Hertfordshire

A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash involving two cars and a coach on the northbound M1 in Hertfordshire.

Police believe vehicles started braking on a section between junction four for Stanmore and five for Watford at about 2000 BST on Friday.

"A coach collided with the back of a Renault Megane and a Ford Mondeo then hit the motorcycle.

"The male motorcyclist sustained injuries which proved fatal at the scene," he said.

Police have appealed for witnesses to contact them.

Det Con Dee Rayner said: "We are still trying to establish the cause of this collision and I would urge anyone who has not already spoken to police to come forward as a matter of urgency.

"We are particularly keen to speak with the driver of a dark BMW vehicle which motorists can recall seeing before the collision took place.

"The driver of this vehicle may not even be aware that a collision has taken place, but we believe they could have information which could greatly assist our investigation."
