Thieves who broke into a Buckinghamshire church and vandalised the building escaped with just £5.
The thieves smashed open the donation box at St Mary and St Giles church, in Stony Stratford, Milton Keynes. The door to the sacristy was also severely damaged.
It is believed the thieves tried to force it open, police said.
Pc Mark Rose said: "To break into a church and steal from the donations box is about as low as you can get."
The theft took place between Sunday night and Monday morning.
The thieves gained entry to the church by stealing a set of keys, police said.
