A 10-year-old girl died after she was hit by a car on a pedestrian crossing in Hertfordshire.
A white Mercedes knocked her down on Monkswood Way, opposite Asda, in Stevenage at 1600 GMT on Tuesday.
Members of the public and an off-duty paramedic looked after her until the emergency services arrived.
She was taken to hospital where she died a short time later. A 44-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.
The road was closed for about three hours for investigations to take place, police said.
