Police officer in court over Luton crash deaths

A police officer has appeared in court charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving after two pedestrians were knocked down.

Reda Lecheheb and Sidali Melal died in the incident in Leagrave Road, Luton, Bedfordshire on 4 June last year.

Pc Kerry Smith, who is based at Luton, appeared at St Albans Magistrates' Court charged with causing death by dangerous driving.

He was granted unconditional bail until a crown court hearing in May.

The officer was on duty at the time of the incident.
