Fire at thatched homes in village near Stevenage

Firefighters have brought under control a fire at two thatched homes in a village in Hertfordshire.

Fire crews were called to Long Lane in Aston End, near Stevenage, at about 1530 GMT on Tuesday after the thatched roofs of two cottages caught fire.

The fire was put out by about 1945 GMT, said a spokesperson for Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service. Neither property was occupied.

Lantern Lane was closed as a result of the fire.
