Council backs masterplan for Dunstable

A masterplan for the future growth of Dunstable in Bedfordshire has been approved by councillors.

The plan looks at redeveloping the town centre, building a new medical centre and a guided bus way.

Central Bedfordshire Council's executive committee has given its backing to the scheme which also includes improving cycle routes.

The proposal for the future development of the town was drawn up after local people were consulted.

Ken Matthews, the council's portfolio holder for economic growth, said: "Dunstable is in need of rejuvenation and by providing a masterplan for the town, we will be able to guide any future developers who are looking to regenerate and invest.

"This is a big step for Dunstable and one that could have a very positive outcome for the town in years to come.

"We now need to focus our attention to the implementation of the plan and securing the levels of investment needed to turn around the fortunes of Dunstable for all its residents, visitors and businesses."
