Luton court murder hearing video link fails

A hearing over a murder charge in Luton went ahead without the defendant when a video link to the court room failed.

The body of Barry Lees, 43, was found in his New Bedford Road home, Luton, on 10 May and Wayne Ellis, from Hampton Road, was charged with his murder.

The 33-year-old will go on trial on 5 December this year.

He was due to appear before Luton Crown Court by video link but technical difficulties meant the hearing went ahead in his absence.

He is being kept on remand in Bedford Prison, the court was told.

Judge John Bevan QC told his solicitor, Paul Millen, that Mr Ellis would stay in custody until a hearing on 1 August when the murder charge would be put to him.
