Man, 71, being helped from road killed by car

A 71-year-old man being helped in the middle of a Bedfordshire road died when he was hit by a passing car.

The man was found on all fours in The Moakes, Luton, on Wednesday afternoon by the driver of a BMW car, who pulled over to help him.

But a second car whose driver had not seen the pedestrian, tried to overtake the BMW and hit the man, said Bedfordshire Police.

The victim, who lives locally, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A taxi driver in a silver people carrier, who is thought to have been in the area but left before police arrived, has now been traced.
