Central Bedfordshire Council to discuss traveller plans

A council is to discuss its strategy for the growth of the travelling community over the next 20 years.

Central Bedfordshire Council's Gypsy and Traveller Plan will provide an additional 135 pitches in the area by 2031.

The council says having a strategy in place helps reduce unauthorised encampments.

Councillor Ken Matthews said: "The task of finding suitable sites is an important one."

He added: "Central Bedfordshire will not be taking any action without full and transparent consultation with all local communities, including the Gypsy and traveller community."

The plan will be discussed at a meeting on Tuesday.

When agreed, it will form part of the statutory development plan for the area.
