Pedestrian killed in 'hit-and-run' crash on A6 in Bedfordshire

A man, believed to be in his 50s, died when he was struck by a car in Bedfordshire.

The accident happened near a roundabout on the A6 at Streatley, north of Luton. The body was discovered by police officers at 03:30 BST.

Police searched the crash area after deciding the man had been knocked over.

A 51-year-old man from Bedford was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and a Fiat Punto car was seized.

The road was closed for about four hours for a police investigation.

Insp Colin Bonner appealed for anyone who may have seen the victim or the car to contact police.

The victim has not yet been identified.
