Stevenage lake jetty fire 'caused by heat'

The "heat of the day" caused a rubber jetty to catch fire at a lake in Stevenage, creating a plume of black smoke, Hertfordshire fire service said.

The service was called to the blaze at Fairlands Valley Park at about 17:30 BST.

The cloud of smoke from the fire was seen for miles around the town, before it was eventually extinguished at about 18:20 BST.

No-one was said to have been hurt by the blaze.
