Rail service in Bedfordshire 'back to normal'

Train services in Bedfordshire are running normally after cable thieves caused disruption on Thursday.

Nearly 1km of cable was taken from the track north of Flitwick on the Thameslink line.

Network Rail completed the repairs by about 18:30 BST but disruption on the line between Luton and Bedford continued into the evening.

A First Capital Connect spokesman said: "We have a normal service running this morning."

He said repairs had taken longer than originally thought because when Network Rail reconnected the cables, it was found that a lot more had been stolen.

"It would have weighed about a tonne and they would have had to have a serious truck to remove it," he said.

"Network Rail are doing an awful lot of patrols along the route but we are also asking anybody who sees anything suspicious, particularly larger vehicles, van or trucks moving through the countryside near to the railway line to please let the police know."
