Police believe a man who was hit and killed by a car on a road in Hertfordshire may have been struck by other vehicles.

The man was walking on the A505 close to Slip End Farm, Ashwell, near Baldock, when he was hit at 05:30 GMT on Saturday by a black BMW.

Police said some cars stopped at the scene, but others drove past and may also have struck the victim.

The man, thought to be in his 20s, died at the scene.

It is believed he was walking eastward towards Royston, between the two Ashwell junctions, when he was struck by the BMW.

Sgt Neil Emmerson, from Hertfordshire Police, said: "My thoughts are with the man's family at this very distressing time.

"We are carrying out inquiries at the scene of the collision. However, we'd like to speak with anyone who drove eastbound on the A505 this morning around the time of the incident at 05:30 GMT or shortly after.

"You may not have realised you had been involved in a collision but we'd like to speak to you as you could greatly assist the investigation."
