Kempston woman tied up and threatened with gun

A 47-year-old woman has been tied up and threatened with a gun in her Bedfordshire home by a masked gang, police say.

Four men, three in balaclavas and one wearing a "scream mask", entered the property on Bunyan Road, Kempston, at 22:00 BST on Tuesday.

They demanded money and searched the property but nothing was taken.

Police are appealing for anyone who saw the four men in the area to contact them.

Officers said the victim managed to get out of the house and into the back garden, where she raised the alarm with neighbours who came to help her.

Det Con Mia Hewitt said it had been a "shocking experience" for the victim, who has been left with severe bruising.

"Bunyan Road is a busy area of Kempston and I am appealing to members of the public in the area to come forward if they remember seeing a group of four men acting suspiciously in the area," she said.

The incident comes two weeks after Serafettin Demirsay, 65, was stabbed to death in Vineyard Way in the town, after three men forced their way into his home.

A police spokeswoman said there was "no suggestion of a link at the moment."
