A man arrested after 45 people were injured when a double decker bus overturned and collided with a car in Hertfordshire has been bailed.

The collision happened at about 08:25 BST on Monday on the A1081 St Albans Road between South Mimms and Barnet.

No-one was critically injured but 45 of the 87 people involved were taken to hospital.

A 41-year-old man from St Albans was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

In total, 87 people were assessed for injuries after the Uno service 614 bus to Hatfield Business Park via Barnet overturned, after reportedly mounting a small bank at the side of the road.

One passenger on the upper deck said people "fell on top of each other" and then had to kick out the windows to escape.

Eight of the passengers were taken to hospital by ambulance with head and neck injuries.

A further 37 people with minor injuries were taken to hospital by a bus from the same company whose vehicle crashed.

Forty-two people were unhurt, the ambulance service said.
