Passenger 'pulled handbrake' in possible murder bid

A car passenger is being investigated on suspicion of attempted murder, after he pulled the handbrake causing the vehicle to crash into a ditch.

The man was in a Fiat Punto being driven by a 41-year-old woman along the Swallowfield by-pass near Reading.

The couple, who were from Three Mile Cross, did not require treatment for injuries.

Police said they are treating the incident, which happened at 1830 BST on Sunday, as attempted murder.

They want to speak to the occupants of a car which stopped to offer help.

Det Con Andrea McArdle, investigating the incident, said: "I would also like to speak to anyone else who may have witnessed this incident or indeed who stopped to offer help."
