Police are investigating an aggravated burglary where a gang of six burst into a couple's home in Berkshire and injured both of them.

When the gang burst into the property in Prospect Street, Reading, at around 0150 BST, they threatened the owners before demanding money, police said.

The man, 35, who suffered head and chest injuries, is in a stable condition in hospital.

A woman, 23, sustained a hand injury. The offenders took an iPod.

Det Insp Nick Watts, from Reading CID, said: "I would like to reassure the community that the early indications from our investigation are that this is not a random attack.

"It was clearly a very upsetting incident for the victims, but fortunately neither of them appears to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

"I would urge anyone who believes they may have any information about the incident to contact my team urgently."
