A teenager has been arrested after the discovery of 500 cannabis plants at a property in Berkshire.

Police raided the home in The Firs, Newbury, at about 0900 BST after being alerted to a high use of electricity coming from the address.

They found the plants, which were at various stages of growth.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of production of a Class B drug and is currently being questionned by officers.

Sgt Gareth Jones said: "The cultivation, dealing and using of drugs of any sort will not be tolerated and we will do everything in our power to stamp it out.

"It is important that landlords do checks on the tenants they are renting out their property to and that they have the relevant insurance to cover them in the case of such events."
