A teenager has been charged with producing a controlled Class B drug following the discovery of 500 cannabis plants at a Berkshire property.

Police raided the premises in The Firs, Newbury, at about 0900 BST on Monday after being alerted to a high use of electricity coming from the address.

They found the plants, which were at various stages of growth.

A 17-year-old boy is expected to appear at West Berkshire Magistrates' Court later, a police spokesman said.
