Arrest after gang stamp on police officer's head

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after a gang of drunken youths kicked and stamped on a police officer's head.

The officer was answering a report of anti-social behaviour in Woodford Park in Woodley, in Reading, Berkshire, at 2200 BST on Friday.

Police said he was one of two officers who spotted the youth drinking alcohol and when they tried to take him back to the police station the attack began.

The officer suffered concussion. The youth has been bailed until Wednesday.

Appeal to parents

Sgt Matt Foskett, from Thames Valley Police, said: "Woodley has recently been experiencing high levels of anti-social behaviour (ASB) in Woodley Precinct and Woodford Park from groups of youths. This is usually alcohol fuelled."

He added that the injured officer, who was treated at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, has returned to work.

Pc Naomi Jolliffe, ASB Officer for Wokingham police, said: "The issue is caused by a minority who stir up incidents and encourage the rest of the group.

"Parents need to be certain where their children are when they go out in the evenings."

Police are appealing for other members of the group who did not attack the officers to come forward as witnesses.
