A woman was sexually assaulted as she pushed her one-year-old baby in a buggy in Berkshire.

The 22-year-old victim was walking along the canal path in Shaw Road, Newbury, when a man attacked her at about 1300 BST on Monday.

The woman managed to kick out at the offender, who was wearing a dark coloured track suit, and he ran off.

Police appealed for information and urged people to take extra precautions when out walking alone.

Det Sgt Paul Davidson, from Newbury CID, said: "I would stress that that there are no indications that there is an increased risk to women or young people in the area but, as always, it is prudent to think about your personal safety."
