Plans to put up large plastic tunnels on nearly five acres at a fruit farm in Berkshire have been approved.

The application for Manor Farm, Finchampstead, had been recommended for approval and was passed by Wokingham borough council on Wednesday.

Owners EU Plants said the polytunnels were "crucial" to meet growing demand.

But some residents and Finchampstead parish council objected, claiming the 3m-high (9.8ft) and 125m-long (410ft) tunnels would ruin the landscape.

The firm plans to grow six million fruit plants on the site and the plastic tunnels will cover 4.6 acres (1.25 hectares).
