A man and woman have been arrested following the discovery of an abandoned baby in Reading.

Amelia, who is about three weeks old, was found in a holdall near the town's Polish Centre, on 3 May.

Her mother had left a note in Polish, with the baby's name on it, stating she could not provide a decent life for her.

A 26-year-old man and a woman, 18, were detained in Winchester on Wednesday on suspicion of child abandonment.

Amelia has been in the care of social services since being discharged from the Royal Berkshire Hospital after a health check.
