Man's body found in River Thames at Maidenhead

A man's body has been recovered following an extensive search of part of the River Thames in Berkshire.

Police were called early on Sunday evening following reports a man had disappeared under the water at Hurley Riverside Park, Maidenhead.

The man, in his 30s, is understood to have spent the day at the river with his family.

A search of the river and banks was called off after a body was recovered at about 22:45 BST.

Earlier, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service's water rescue unit searched the water for around 40 minutes, but were unable to locate the man.

A spokesperson said: "Members of the public are reminded not to enter rivers or lakes, no matter how tempting they might seem.

"Even strong swimmers can be affected by cold water and currents, whilst underwater hazards, invisible from the surface, can trap people under water."
