Boy arrested in school gun alert in Tilehurst
Armed police swooped on a Reading school following reports of a man seen in a vehicle in the car park holding what was thought to be a firearm.
A large number of police officers were called to Little Heath School in Tilehurst, at about 12:30 BST, a Thames Valley Police spokesman said.
Officers located the vehicle and found what is believed to be an imitation firearm in the glove-box.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Officers will be visiting schools in the area this afternoon to provide reassurance.
Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and no-one was injured or threatened.
Headteacher David Ramsden said: "There was a threat reported to us today that had to be treated seriously.
"Their [police] investigation soon established that the threat posed no danger to the children or staff."
Mr Ramsden confirmed that the school followed its critical incident procedure and said all of the children were safe.
He added: "I will be speaking carefully to the students in assemblies next week to reassure them about what happened."
