People are being warned not to approach a man who has gone missing from a secure unit at a hospital in Berkshire.

John Maguire, 43, left Thornford Park Hospital in Crookham, near Thatcham, at lunchtime on Saturday and has not been seen since.

Police said he should not be approached as he could "become aggressive if challenged" and urged anyone who sees him to contact them.

Mr Maguire is 5ft 10in tall and of slim build with short brown hair.

He was last seen wearing a brown T-shirt with yellow and white stripes and a black jacket.

Det Insp Stuart Bosley said: "We do not believe he has access to a mobile phone or money at this time so I ask that residents of Berkshire are vigilant and keep an eye out for him.

"We have some information that John can become aggressive if challenged, so please phone 101 if you see him, or 999 in an emergency.

"We have a number of officers in Crookham and the surrounding areas and are doing everything to locate John and make sure he is safe."
