A shopping centre was evacuated after a suspicious item was found.

Reading's The Oracle shopping centre, its car parks and surrounding streets were closed for more than eight hours after police were called at 09:00 BST.

Shoppers told the BBC they had not been allowed back to their cars and people near to the site were advised to stay inside buildings.

The road closures in Bridge Street, Gun Street, Minster Street and Yield Hall Place were lifted shortly before 17:00.

The shopping centre remains closed.

Its Riverside car park has reopened but its Holy Brook car park remains closed.

Thames Valley Police said investigations were continuing to determine whether a "suspect bag did contain a credible device".
