Woman dies when car hits lamppost in Birmingham

A motorist died and a teenage passenger was seriously hurt when the car they were in crashed into a lamppost in Birmingham.

Ambulance crews were called to Tyburn Road, in Erdington, at about 1530 BST on Saturday.

The female driver was confirmed dead at the scene, police said.

The teenage front-seat passenger was airlifted to hospital and a child in the back seat, aged about four, was checked at the scene but was not hurt.
