Birmingham teenagers in ballet project

A project to bring ballet to Birmingham's suburbs is getting scores of the city's teenagers pointing their toes.

Professional dancers from Birmingham Royal Ballet (BRB) are giving around 80 teenagers a crash course in dance, lighting, costume and set design.

Ballet, Birmingham and Me aims to bring ballet into the community.

The youngsters are working towards staging their own production of Prokofiev's Cinderella on 7 December.

The production will run alongside the BRB's production of the famous ballet at the Hippodrome.

The scheme is a collaboration between BRB, Birmingham Youth Service and the Association of Youth Clubs.

Charlotte, a participant from The Pump youth group in Kitts Green, said: "It's an incredible responsibility we've been given, not many young people can say they've performed at the Hippodrome!"
