Pedestrian hit by car in Birmingham dies

A 19-year-old pedestrian from Birmingham has been pronounced dead after she was hit by a car in the city.

The woman, who suffered serious head injuries, was struck by a Renault Clio in Coventry Road, Yardley, at about 0030 BST on Saturday.

An 18-year-old woman from Solihull, who was driving the car towards Birmingham, and a passenger sustained minor injuries, police said.

The pedestrian, who was in the road, was pronounced dead at hospital.

Two passengers in the car, both men in their late teens or early 20s, had arm and back injuries and were taken to City Hospital, the ambulance service said.

It added that the car driver was assessed and discharged at the scene.
