Six in hospital after Birmingham house fire


Six people were taken to hospital after firefighters attended a fire at a two-storey end terrace in Birmingham.

Fire crews were called at about 0410 BST to a blaze at a property in the Alwold Road area of Weoley Castle.

A ground floor kitchen was damaged in the fire and there was smoke damage to the whole of the ground floor and half of the first floor.

Four men and two women were suffering from smoke inhalation. The fire was under control by about 0620 BST.

One dog was rescued by fire service staff and one dog was found dead at the scene.

The police and the ambulance service also attended.
