A woman found dead in Birmingham could be a new mother who went missing on Valentine's Day, police have said.

Officers discovered a body, thought to be Nicole Cartmell, 18, from Sandwell, in a house in Whateley Road, Handsworth, on Wednesday.

Police visited the premises to speak to a man regarding the use of bank cards belonging to the teenager, who gave birth in January, a spokesman said.

Two men aged 18 and 20 have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

'Early stages'

They remain in custody for questioning.

West Midlands Police acting Det Ch Insp Wayne Jones said: "We are at the very early stages of this investigation, however one strong line of inquiry is that the body is that of Nicole, who has been missing for the past fortnight."

Anyone who knows Ms Cartmell, or who has information about her, is asked to call police or Crimestoppers anonymously.

A post-mortem examination will take place in due course to determine a cause of death, the spokesman added.
