Annie Lennard Infants School floods after copper theft

A school has been flooded after thieves stole copper from the water tank, police said.

Between 3 to 4ft (about 1m) of copper was stolen from the main water tank at Annie Lennard Infants School in Smethwick overnight on Wednesday.

The caretaker opened the school to find more than 1ft (30cm) of water in the entrance hall, classrooms, library, resources room and meeting rooms.

The school closed for the Easter holidays two days early as a result.

It will reopen after the break.

Police said the thieves probably stopped when water started leaking.
