Part of Birmingham has been closed after reports that a 54m (177ft) crane in the city centre was unstable.

Police said officers were called to the junction of Freeman Street and Park Street at 1130 BST after problems were identified with the crane.

Repair work is being carried out to the structure and cordons are in place to ensure the safety of people and traffic in the area, police said.

New Canal Street, Fazeley Street, Park Street and Moor Street are all closed.

West Midlands Fire Service said the crane was possibly unstable but a collapse was unlikely.
