Thieves steal 50m live cable from Wolverhampton school

Thieves have stolen electricity cable causing damage put at thousands of pounds to a Wolverhampton school.

A 50m (160ft) stretch of concrete slabs was dug up and underlying live electricity cable stolen overnight at South Wolverhampton & Bilston Academy.

Repair costs are thought to be about £6,000.

A police spokesperson said: "The offenders have not only caused significant disruption to the school, but also put their own lives at risk."

Metal thefts have been on the increase because of rising commodity prices.
