Lib Dem conference: Three charged over Birmingham bridge protest

Three people have been charged with causing a danger to road users after a protest near the Liberal Democrats conference in Birmingham.

The men, from Leeds, Doncaster and Fleet in Hampshire, were arrested on Friday near to the International Convention Centre (ICC).

They had allegedly caused debris to fall on to Broad Street after climbing a footbridge to unfurl a banner.

The men, aged between 19 and 22, will appear before magistrates on Monday.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: "We continue to monitor a small peaceful protest near the ICC.

"While we recognise and support the democratic right for people to peacefully protest, we continue to balance this with ensuring the safety and security of all those attending these events, as well as the wider Birmingham community."
