A third man has been held on suspicion of murdering the parents of a police officer in their Birmingham home.

Avtar Kolar, 62, and his wife Carole, 58, were found in Handsworth Wood on Wednesday. They died as a result of blunt force injuries to the head.

One man, aged 24, arrested on Friday was released on bail and a second, aged 41, was released without charge on Monday.

Police said a 37-year-old man was arrested at 13:00 GMT on Monday.

'Mom, why?'

The couple's bodies were discovered inside their semi-detached house in Friary Road by their son, Jason, a serving police officer with the West Midlands force.

Crimestoppers has offered a £10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.

The couple, who had been married for 40 years, had four children and eight grandchildren.

Among tributes which have been left close to their house were four note cards and three heart-shaped balloons which were attached to a floral tribute.

One message read: "Mom, why? No life will ever be the same without you.

"We adore you and miss you so much, the pain is unbearable. Love always, your children."

Another said: "Dad, why? Our life has stopped, it will never be the same. We miss you so much, the pain in our hearts will never ease. Love always, your children."
